With the advancements in camera technology of smartphones, we all love to take and save our photos on our smartphones. And for most users, sending their pictures to their friends and family is the most common function of the smartphone. But if that function is being used randomly without you knowing, you have got a serious problem.

Well, this has happened to handful users of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9 users who complained that their photos from Gallery have been sent randomly to their contacts without any kind of permission. Not only this has happened to the users of Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9, but the previous device users have got the same problem. Switching to 3rd party Messaging Apps could be saviour until Samsung fix this bug via software update.

According to user reports, the problem stems from Samsung Messages, the default texting app on Galaxy devices, which (for reasons that haven’t been determined), is erroneously sending pictures stored on the devices to random contacts via SMS. One user on Reddit even claims that instead of sending one pic, Samsung Messages sent out their entire photo gallery to a contact in the middle of the night. Fortunate for that person (or maybe not), those pictures were sent to their partner. But for others who may have had pics sent to more sensitive recipients like a business partner or boss, the bug could give other people an unwanted peek into their private life.

Not only the Messaging app sends the photos to the random contacts of the user, but the scariest part about this bug is that when Samsung Messages bugs out send pics to other people, it apparently doesn’t leave any evidence of it doing so, which means people may not know their photos have been released into the wild until it’s too late.

There are some theories regarding the bug that is causing the problem, but Samsung itself hasn’t declared any solution to the problem or even the cause of the problem. However, according to a theory on Samsung’s forum, this bug has something to do with the recent Rich Communication Services updates that carriers have been rolling out in the United States. The Rich Communication Services has boasted of improving the legacy of SMS protocol, in addition to the extra features like media sharing, read reports and more. Probably, there is a bug in the implementation of that RCS that is causing the problem.

Moreover, Samsung has acknowledged in a statement that “We are aware of the reports regarding this matter and our technical teams are looking into it. Concerned customers are encouraged to contact us directly at 1-800-SAMSUNG.”

Fortunately, this bug is not disturbing the users outside the United States so it is quite possible that the bug has actually something to do with the RCS update. However, the matter is not confirmed until Samsung makes its official announcement.
